Saudi Arabia’s art scene is experiencing a dynamic transformation, with pioneering artists playing a crucial role in shaping its visual identity. As part of our commitment to preserving and celebrating this artistic legacy, Misk Art Institute presents the third edition of the Solo Series, a dedicated platform honoring influential Saudi artists and their contributions.
This year’s Solo Series presents Fouad Mougharbel and Saad Almasari, two established Saudi artists whose practices have contributed significantly to the development of Saudi visual culture. Through their individual exhibitions, the Solo Series highlights their artistic journeys and sustained engagement with the evolving art landscape of the Kingdom.
Fouad Mougharbel
Taibah: Remnants and Solace
Fouad Mougharbel’s exhibition reflects his lifelong connection to Madinah Almunawwarah, also known by the name Taibah. The city has remained one of the most enduring influences within Mougharbel’s artistic practice. Unfolding through his depictions of the Prophet’s Mosque, historic architecture, and communal traditions of daily life, his work reconstructs the memory of place and its spiritual atmosphere rather than documenting it. Moving between figuration and abstraction, he translates Madinah’s alleyways, facades, traditions, and inner radiance into compositions shaped by light and structure, reflecting the city’s transformation while preserving its presence in memory.
Saad Almasari
Geometry as Thought
Saad Almasari engages with the structural principles of Islamic art through geometry, proportion, and repetition. Inspired by the landscapes and vernacular architecture of his environment, his work transforms architectural and natural forms into carefully structured compositions. Through painting, sculpture, and ceramics, he reinterprets geometric traditions within a contemporary framework, maintaining their spiritual and visual logic while exploring new possibilities of form.
Each exhibition invites visitors to engage with two distinct artistic practices and consider their contributions within the broader narrative of Saudi visual culture.
