Following an open call, this juried exhibition marks the third edition of the annual Prince Faisal bin Fahd Arts Hall Exhibition. Through an intergenerational lens, 43 Saudi and Saudi-based artists explore how personal and collective histories inform evolving identities and catalyze social change. The exhibition reflects on the narratives, values, and lived experiences passed down by families and communities, tracing their impact over time.
The works in this exhibition, spanning a range of media and approaches, from figurative representations to symbolic abstraction, delve into themes of memory, migration, cultural hybridity, and resilience. They foreground the wisdom of elders and the ways it is reinterpreted through contemporary perspectives, with portraits, rituals, and heirlooms serving as vehicles of cultural memory. Multimedia installations reimagine shared experience across time, adding depth to the exploration of these themes.
Situated at the intersection of memory and possibility, the exhibition stands as a living dialogue between generations that asks: How do visible and intangible connections across time shape who we are today? What responsibilities do we bear in shaping the histories yet to come? The selected works comprise intimate reflections on heritage, homeland and womanhood through the lens of familial memory, where inherited wisdom passed down through generations becomes an anchor point for personal identity. Language, too, emerges as a site of evolution, manifesting through personal experience. From the subtle evolution of a phrase’s adaptation over time to shared language between cultures and families, language proves to be a tool of resilience and a bridge between past and present. Across the exhibition, intergenerational exchange is both theme and method, offering a way to remain rooted amidst change and the passage of time.
