About the artist

(B. 1989. Saudi Arabia)

Areej Aljarba writes poems and short stories in Arabic and English, focusing on individualism, anti-oppression, and womanhood. In 2013, she completed a bachelor’s degree in Information Studies from Imam Muhammed Ibn Saud University, followed by a Master of Science with honors in Human-Computer Interaction from DePaul University, Chicago, the USA, in 2017. She is currently working on a novel in Arabic called  Alnazea’a, scheduled for release in 2023.  

Aljarba has authored several personal blogs that contain an extensive collection of poems, short stories, and essays. In 2017, she participated in the Middle Eastern Poetry Festival by the Poetry Foundation in Chicago, IL, where she recited poems in Arabic and English. She has also published non-fiction texts in Arabic like Comedians, the Poets of this Era (2017).  

In 2022, Aljarba became the second writer-in-residence at Misk Art Institute and hopes to pursue a Ph.D. in literature and culture.
