In 2018, Misk Art Institute commissioned the first National Pavilion of Saudi Arabia at the International Architecture Exhibition of La Biennale di Venezia. Located in the Arsenale, one of the Biennale’s two major sites, the National Pavilion is now a permanent home for the kingdom’s most innovative cultural creativity – where it will alternate six-month presentations of art and architecture each year to be part of one of the most enduring and pre-eminent global cultural dialogues. 


La Biennale di Venezia is the most significant cultural gathering of nation states in the world. Founded in 1895, it is globally renowned for staging the greatest presentations of arts, architecture, film, dance, music and theatre. Its major six-month presentations of Art and Architecture alternate years, with half a million visitors encountering up to 85 national pavilions. The first architecture exhibition was held in 1980, In 2018, 65 national pavilions came together for the 16th architecture biennale. The first art biennale was held in 1895, in 2019, more than 85 nations are expected to make presentations for the 58th art biennale.
