Call for applications to the 2022 Curatorial Collective Course, guided by curators Sam Bardaouil and Till Fellrath of Art Reoriented

The Curatorial Collective Course is a six-week hybrid program tailored to early-career curators in the GCC region looking to pursue a professional career in curating. Participants will examine a wide range of approaches to curating and practical emphasis will be given to exploring the various career paths of a curator from an institutional to a non-institutional model. 

Course Details:

  • Weekly sessions with leading curators

  • One-on-one critiques between the participants and the lecturer

 

This course will provide participants with a valuable opportunity to gain constructive feedback on their exhibition proposal via a one-to-one critique session, alongside weekly group lectures by practicing professionals.

During the weekly sessions participants will examine a wide range of approaches to curating, as well as the fundamental steps of constructing an exhibition. These sessions are followed by one-to-one critiques between the participants and the lecturer providing participants with a valuable opportunity to gain constructive feedback on the final exhibition proposals.

Each week one lecturer will discuss a specific topic that is relevant to curators based in the GCC, such as:

  • The role of an artist vs a curator 

  • Perception and representation of artists from the Arab world 

  • The advantages and challenges of curating within different institutional structure 

  • Tackling questions of otherness within mechanisms of exhibition making 

  • The role of academic research in the curatorial process

Course Objective:

Each participant will create a fully developed proposal for an exhibition illustrating a profound grasp of the theoretical and practical aspects of exhibition making. One of the participants’ proposals will be realized in a space in Saudi Arabia.
