Critical thinking within artistic practices

Misk Art Institute has partnered with PhMuseum to offer a five-day masterclass unpacking the need for critical thinking while building a new body of work.

What is a tradition? 
How is a legacy traced? 

With these questions in mind, participants will be invited to expand their critical thinking, examine contemporary references, and gain methods that will support the development of a project from its conception to dissemination. The masterclass will guide the production of a new body of work using AI technology (DALL-E 2) and critically analyze its results. 

Masterclass Objectives
Alternating practical exercises with theoretical inputs each day will have a specific focus aimed at:

  • Strengthening each participant’s practice 

  • Acquiring the required tools and strategies to present research to an audience in several formats 

  • Writing biographies, artist statements, and grant applications 

  • Create a new project with AI generated images, biography, and synopsis

Who’s it for?
Saudi contemporary artists with proficient working ability in English. This course will be best suited for artists practicing:

  • Photography

  • Digital media arts

  • Collage and assemblage

  • mixed media 

  • video art 

  • AI

Applicants must meet the following criteria:

  • 2+ years of fine arts experience

  • 2+ years of exhibiting history

  • Actively practicing and engaging in the arts

Applicants must fully commit to prioritizing this five-day course, with no exceptions.
