Language: English

In partnership with the School for Curatorial Studies in Venice, Misk Art Institute is giving two early career curators the opportunity to participate in the Summer Course in Curatorial Practice, a course that is truly in a class of its own.

This three-month full-time course at The School for Curatorial Studies is the only one of its kind in Italy and has as its objective the diffusion of knowledge of visual arts and the introduction of professionals into the field of contemporary art and the valorization of artistic heritage. Taking place in Venice, Italy, the program addresses the specifications and requirements for curators in an international city known for the Venice Biennale of contemporary art and the Venice Biennale of architecture.

The intensive course is divided in three modules, held by different professional figures as well as a trip tp an art city. It also uses site visits and case studies to unpack the artistic discourse that surrounds the International Biennales and the cultural organization across the city of Venice. The course gives participants the opportunity to:

  • Visit artist studios and specific art venues, while imparting the skills required to monitor the development of contemporary arts

  • Track the trends of presenting art

  • Engage in theoretical discourse

  • Unpack the continuous development of art practices

Participants will develop themes as well as develop concepts and acquire knowledge about organization, acquisition, communication, and the concrete implementation of their skills together with the course director and international guests (artists, curators, architects, critics, fine arts scientists and publishers of art journals). There is the possibility to put into practice knowledge acquired through the organization of a final exhibit with the logistic and organizational support of the School.

At the end of the course the participants receive a Certificate of Advanced Studies in Curatorial Practices.
