This course done in collaboration with PhMuseum brings theoretical and practical skills for artists and curators, culminating in an online exhibition. Drawing upon contemporary themes related to Tradition, the course will investigate the different approaches to curatorial thinking and artistic practice.
This five-day course will consider the two vantage points in the artist and curator relationship by examining:
Exhibition planning
Curation
Logistics and commercial variables within the realm of the contemporary scene
The course will question how this process has evolved over the years and how new technology like NFTs and the metaverse have become complementary assets to the more traditional processes. Participants will be offered the chance to work collaboratively in small groups where artists and curators will learn to think collectively while conceiving a personal curatorial concept and receive the tools to structure a coherent exhibition proposal.
On the last day, the PhMuseum Technical Director will join the conversation to explain the environment of online exhibitions. Under the direction of the instructors, participants will develop their proposals into a curated online show. If the level is high enough, the exhibition will be displayed live on PhMuseum.com and the exhibition will be shared with an international audience.
Note: This course is part of a larger program, the Emerging Curator Program, which includes two other courses, online mentorship, and one participant will be awarded a three-month internship at MAXXI National Museum of 21st Century Art in Rome.
