Repair is a form of mending, as a way of concealing the broken, the damaged, practiced at the end of an object’s story. The term “repair,” extends far beyond the connotations associated with a simple fix, repair is a constant, evolving, holistic operation. Repair discourse is resurging, moving slowly away from the need for invisibility, allowing space for interventions or interpretations, often with a visible mend.
Masaha Residency artist-in-residence Reema Turki Nasser will lead this workshop and teach how the Japanese art of Kintsugi treats breakage and repair as part of the history of an object, rather than something to disguise.
Workshop Structure
This workshop is great for designers, architects, and engineers and is part of the fourth cycle of the Masaha Residency program.
