Personal Narratives within Saudi Landscapes

Misk Art Institute presents the second iteration of the annual Prince Faisal bin Fahd Arts Hall Exhibition. This iteration features the works of 28 Saudi and Saudi-based artists, exploring the complex, evolving visual landscapes of the Kingdom. Through their diverse perspectives and media, the artists highlight the dynamic relationship between people and their urban environments.

The cities of Saudi Arabia are rich in identity, built environments, and natural landscapes. Far more than backdrops to our daily lives and commutes, these cities, in all their diversity, profoundly shape individual human experiences.

Featured artworks offer multilayered portrayals of the urban experience and examine the interplay of public and private spaces while uncovering personal narratives from across the Kingdom.

Utilizing technology-based media, artists explore their varied surroundings, from historical neighborhoods to natural landscapes and fast-paced metropolises. They weave personal stories with the essence of the cities, touching on collective memories. Ultimately, the artists engage with the places they inhabit, the identities these locations hold, and the profound impact environment has on us.

Honoring a Legacy

Since its inception in 1985, Prince Faisal bin Fahd Arts Hall has been a landmark in the creative community. It draws audiences through art exhibitions featuring a wide spectrum of artists of all levels. Inspired by the Hall’s role in the development of the Saudi art scene, Misk Art Institute issues its annual open call for submissions for Prince Faisal bin Fahd Arts Hall Exhibition.

For the first time, this iteration of Prince Faisal bin Fahd Arts Hall Exhibition expands into the adjacent theater—a space rich with cultural history since established as part of the Capital Institute in Riyadh and inaugurated in 1981. Under the patronage of His Royal Highness Prince Fahd bin Abdulaziz Al Saud, who later became king, the theater has long hosted various educational events, including high school graduation ceremonies.
