Augustas Serapinas

(b. 1990, Lithuania) Lives and works in Vilnius, Lithuania

Augustas Serapinas is a Lithuanian artist who graduated with a B.F.A. from the Vilnius Academy of Arts in 2013. The artist's practice is invested in recomposing socially engaged spaces to the foreground and problematizing the assumptions that shape them. By inverting the day-to-day functions of objects and spatiality, Serapinas toys with the possibilities of the encounter—of art and the social relations it engenders, as a phenomenon and an opportunity. The artist's work primarily deals with heritage preservation employing a form of appropriation and reuse that affirms cultural traditions as ever evolving.

Serapinas's solo exhibitions include Summer in Rūdninkai, Apalazzo Gallery, Italy (2021); 20 Apartments, P/////AKT, Netherlands (2020); Various Others, Emalin hosted by Sperling, Germany (2019); February 13th, Emalin, United Kingdom (2019); Waiting For Another Time, Apalazzo Gallery, Italy (2018); Where is Luna, CURA Basement, Italy (2018); Blue Pen, David Dale Gallery, United Kingdom (2018); Jousaal (Gym), Piktogram, Poland (2018); Sigi, Kunsthalle Wien, Austria (2017); and Housewarming, Emalin, United Kingdom (2016).
