Participants of this broad-ranging and ground-breaking course will gain an appreciation of art business through the rich and exciting lens of the Arab art world. 

In partnership with Sotheby’s Institute of Art, the curriculum is designed with a regional focus comprising of a series of sessions looking at different countries including Saudi Arabia, Iraq, UAE, Egypt – and their respective contributions to Arab art. It will also take a more thematic focus, by chronologically examining major developments across thousands of years of art, design, and culture in the region. 

The course covers a range of topics, including: 

  • What is 'Arab' art
  • Middle Eastern art: major figures
  • Curating Middle Eastern Art 
  • Regional focuses including Saudi 
  • The Market for Arab Art
  • Modern Art from the Arab World
  • Regional Fairs and Biennials 

 

The course will also introduce participants to expertise elements in the art market which including essential terms for the buying and selling of art including valuation, auctions, and sales. 
Participants will come away from the course with a confident grasp of the developments of the art world that surrounds them.
