Venice Biennale Reception

The Ambassador of Italy to the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, H.E. Mr Luca Ferrari, hosted a presentation of the Saudi national pavilion at the 16th International Architecture Exhibition, La Biennale di Venezia. Opening his residence in Riyadh's diplomatic quarter, the event welcomed representatives of the diplomatic corps, artists and members of the Saudi and Italian community.

Looking forward to a landmark moment in the diplomatic history of Saudi Arabia, the event also celebrated long-standing cultural relations between Italy and the kingdom. Reflecting on these close bonds between, H.E. Luca Ferrari commented:

For many years, young Saudi artists travelled to and lived in Italian cities as part of their artistic journey. Italian architects have worked in Saudi Arabia and contributed to its development. There is now need to develop a more strategic framework to enhance the cultural dialogue between our two countries. There is no better time for the kingdom to join La Biennale di Venezia.

Considering the Biennale's long heritage of cross-cultural dialogue, speakers introduced the event's history and significance. Members of the Pavilion team also gave a preview of this year's Saudi participation Spaces in Between – including a video link with Abdulrahman and Turki Gazzaz, the architects working on the exhibition in Venice, and presentations from the curators. Coming at a momentous time of unprecedented change, the exhibition will reflect on the potential of such transformation and places innovative young Saudi voices on one of the world's leading cultural platforms. The evening was a moment to explore the Pavilion with the Saudi, Italian and diplomatic communities of Riyadh, highlighting the significant conversations and exchange that can be spurred by such cultural events.

The economic and social changes which we are witnessing in the kingdom today are extraordinary. As we continue to develop the strategic partnership between our two countries under the framework of Vision 2030, arts and culture have a special role to play
H.E. Mr Luca Ferrari, Ambassador of Italy to the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia
