Participation is a key tool, method, and approach to understanding today's world and facing its challenges. Architect, researcher, and urban development strategist Insaf Ben Othmane Hamrouni leads this three-day masterclass.
By involving people in the design process, we can create better spaces that meet everyone's needs.
Participatory design is an approach to design that emphasizes the active involvement of all stakeholders in the design process. It is a collaborative, decision making, creative process that gives everyone a say in how their environment looks and functions and more. It leads to better design outcomes, it builds community, and it empowers people. When done well, participatory design can be a powerful tool for change. It's what makes us unique as individuals, and it's also what binds us together as communities.
Topics covered include:
Art and architecture as human legacies through time
Art and architecture as a reflection of set of shared values, beliefs, and practices
Design a vital tool for coexistence
How participation is crucial to make collaborative designs
The three days will be structured on three main sessions:
Theory and History: Background (presentation)
Capacity building and Teamwork (interactive)
Horizon: Expanding Knowledge and Debate (best practices and Q/A)
Who’s it for?
Architects, artists, entrepreneurs, researchers, and students of humanitarian and social studies interested in taking this journey in learning relevant thinking, co-designing tools and techniques, participation, and community engagement methods.
