Misk Art Institute has partnered with MAXXI Rome to create an exciting five-day masterclass for architects and interior designers wishing to pivot to a career in exhibition design.

This masterclass is aimed at upskilling those interested in a career in the museum sector with the technical skills for creating spaces. The masterclass will culminate in creating an exhibition design to display a number of artworks from the MAXXI collection.

Topics Covered

• The skills and competences involved in the creation of an exhibition design or in displaying a museum collection
• Nuances of exhibition design as the architecture of an exhibition space, existing in the background, not overshadowing the works
• The complex tasks that involve displaying and lighting
• Conserving and protecting works of art
• The relationship between the curator and exhibition designer

By addressing the themes, methodologies, and practices related to designing exhibitions, the masterclass’s main goal is to introduce the participants to exhibition design elements, the importance of working with curators, understanding the limitations of the space and the specific requirements of the artwork. Moreover, the course aims to clarify what professional skills are needed for those active or involved in displaying cultural heritage in the arts and museum fields.
